Fashion Trend Cycle

Fashion is a subjective term, one that many people will try to define, but what they mean is entirely different for each person. If you ask someone what they consider to be a fashion trend, they may tell you that one or two pieces of clothing have become “fashionable”, and the rest of the outfit has become unfashionable. While that might be true, it isn’t exactly true in every case. Let’s face it; clothes don’t come cheap, so you want to go all out when choosing a new wardrobe and fashion trend. And there are always new trends, coming out all the time, so knowing what’s currently in vogue is always helpful.

Some fashion experts (myself included) have assembled charts that follow the fashion trend cycle as closely as possible. The fashion trend cycle kicks off with the post-modern period, which features styles like Cubism, which is characterized by over-the-top geometric patterns. It is characterized by Cubism with minimalism, stark black-and-white designs, and bright colors. The post-modern era of fashion focuses more on function than form, resulting in designs such as haute couture, which makes a statement without being ostentatious. These trends will be everywhere this fall, as they have been for several years, thanks to the common tire of things getting too trendy.

Another thing that tends to characterize fashion trends is how long they last. As an example, many fashions tend to be popular for only a season or two before fading out completely, whereas trends in clothing seem to last nearly one year before becoming commonplace. Therefore, you can put your hopes up on almost one year before you’ll need to replace the clothing, as designers will not likely revisit a garment once it has fallen out of fashion. However, if you’re looking forward to an upcoming fad, it’s best to stick with well-known designers for the foreseeable future.
